The Cranston Arts Commission is proud to announce two new award programs, to be awarded annually:
an artist award, and a student scholarship award.
This program was designed to aid and lift Cranston residents in their pursuit of the arts through enrichment, education and/or economic growth.
Eligible recipients must:
Be Cranston residents or
Be artists planning a work of public art or program in the city of Cranston
Complete their application submission by January 30th

Artist Award
This award was created for local artists to make contributions to the arts community in Cranston whether through personal practice or special projects in the city. Awards will be granted annually for projects up to $1000 to visual and performing artisans. Awarded artists should expect to give a presentation on their project at an upcoming Arts Commission event.
Open to projects of all arts disciplines, from artists of all levels.
Awarded artists must:
be a resident of Cranston or
creating public work or programs accessible to Cranston residents
Examples of funded projects include but are not limited to:
public art, public performance, curation of a gallery show, host an educational program, host an arts networking event, funding support for making art and studio work etc.
Open to all practicing artists who:
are a person that intentionally creates or practices art in any discipline
has sought learning or training in the artistic field from any source, not necessarily in formal academic institutions
is committed to devoting significant time to artistic activity, as is possible financially
is presently or is working toward earning some portion of their income from their art
practices in disciplines including but are not limited to: visual and performing artists, musician, painter, poet, choreographer, teaching artist, sculptor, storyteller, playwright, photographer, artisans with a focus in traditional crafts, printmaker, animator, fashion designer, and filmmaker.

Cranston Arts Commission Student Arts Scholarship
Up to $500 per family (no more than $1000 awarded)
Available to any Cranston Resident in grades K-12 looking for arts enrichment programs, after school classes, camps or workshops. Parents will submit their invoice and the Arts Commission will reimburse the organization. Invoices must be paid before the end of the fiscal year FY26.

Parents must submit their invoice for an eligible art program before June 1 2026. Cranston Arts Commission will reimburse the organization directly. If a pre-payment or deposit is needed to hold a space in a class or camp, the family will need to arrange that with the organization.
